Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II need very little introduction. They created a string of popular Broadway musicals in the 1940s and 1950s, initiating what is considered to be the 'golden age' of musical theatre. Among the many accolades their shows (and film adaptions) garnered are 34 Tony Awards, 15 Academy Awards, the Pulitzer Prize and two Grammy Awards! Their musical theatre writing partnership has been called the greatest of the 20th century.
Burt Bacharach is one of the most accomplished popular composers of the 20th century. In the '60s and '70s he was a dominant figure in pop music, scoring a remarkable 52 Top 40 hits. He has worked with everyone from Perry Como to Dionne Warwick and Dusty Springfield to Gladys Knight and the Pips. If you don't know his name you will certainly know his songs, which include 'What's New Pussycat?', 'Say A Little Prayer' and of course, 'Magic Moments'.
